Pivotal Directions announces its 5th annual leadership camp for students entering 6th, 7th & 8th grades in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Set on the beautiful bluff of Lake Michigan this servant leadership 3-day camp challenges students to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others! This engaging experience run by Pivotal Directions high school and college leaders develops leadership skills to empower young leaders to achieve their personal best. There will be a variety of activities to discover, enhance, and advance leadership skills in a fun environment. These life skills propel success by teaching communication, respect, team building and the importance of community service. Students provide their own bag lunch. Pivotal Directions camp t-shirt, snacks, and all activities and leadership.

Developmental Goals for Camp

Courage

True strength comes from within the individual. The times in which we live require that we develop courage to stand up for what is right, what is healthy, and what will protect your child. We cannot live a courageous life until we are introduced to courageous stories and people. Our young people must have something to model after.

Teamwork & Communication

The ability to function in a team atmosphere is an invaluable asset. Our course not only provides fun-filled activities, but we intentionally focus on what we call “Peer Praise” – the ability for youth to recognize and praise the strengths in their peers. Learning to communicate thoughts and feelings is an obstacle young leaders strive to overcome. Each activity is followed by a debrief.

Perspectives

Camp will offer diverse perspectives to your child on the world that surrounds them in order to develop empathy (not sympathy) for what it is like to walk in someone else’s shoes. What is it like to be poor, to be sad, lonely, to be bullied, to struggle? In contrast, what is it like to be a leader, and how can a leader combat injustice?

Camp 1.0 is our traditional 3-day camp. Camp 2.0 is where our students who participated in Camp 1.0 put their new leadership skills into practice mentoring at-risk youth at the beautiful Mequon Nature Preserve. 2 days of leading others in activities
